Robbery during races

Just wanted to share the incident experienced by fellow Happy Feet runners Let and Erick during Botak Paa-Bilisan last Sunday. Their new SLR camera and cellphone were stolen probably while the race is ongoing. Here is part of Let’s email to the Happy Feet group:

but something bad happened that race day sa amin, naka park kamimalapit sa rox, ninakaw ang camera namin at celphone ko which i thinkhappened habang tumatakbo kami, sinungkit yung sasakyan namin atkinuha ang mga yun.

ni-report namin sa police (and were not hoping na marerecover pa angmga yun, i just don’t believe sa sistema ng mga “kinauukulan”, nooffense po sa may mga kamaganak na autoridad). sabi lang nya wala dawcoordination yung mga organizers sa kanila (pinasa pa sa iba ang sisi,hay..), at hindi lang daw kami ang nanakawan (defensive), meron pa rawiba. (pero hindi ba dapat mag bantay pa din sila kasi yun angobligasyon nila), i felt so sad nung time na yun, almost 6mos. pa langsa amin yung slr na camera na yun. pero sabi ni erick pasalamat pa dinkami sa Diyos kasi hindi kinuha yung sasakyan.”

I heard that this is not the first time this incident happen. May this serve as a warning to other runners to take the necessary precaution.

Paa-Bilisan 2008

  • I was targeting 55 minutes but wasn’t able to get it. Instead, I finished the 10K course with an unofficial time of 58:19 still a PR! Thanks to fitmommy for pacing me. Try natin uli i-break ang 55 minutes sa next run.
  • Met runner bloggers bugobugo, run unltd and loonyrunner. I heard bananarunning was also there but I wasn’t able to meet her.
  • Forgot to bring my camera. Good thing I have my camera phone ready and I was able to get great and interesting photos.
Orange everywhere!

Accenture Volleyball Team

Got this writeup from our office's weekly news bulletin.

The AVT: A force to be reckoned with

The Accenture Volleyball Team has in the same way been a strong force divided amongst strategic teams, as it continues to compete in several leagues in the off-season of the AVL. With the beginning of this fiscal year came an opportunity for victory, as both the Men's and Women's teams joined the ADB Invitational Tournament which began on September 4th. Racking up consecutive wins, Accenture topped both divisions earning a twice-to-beat advantage for the semifinals. This was unnecessary, however, as both teams calmly beat their opponents with their eyes on the championship.
In mid-September, the AVT also fielded teams for the Corporate and Open Divisions of the Volle 650 Tournament held on weekends at Club650, Libis. The elimination round is still ongoing - view the schedule and watch the games!
October proves to be a busy month for the AVT, as they also joined the 1st ITAP Volleyball Tournament. Accenture showed they are High Performers at work and more so at play, as they challenged other IT companies and swept the one-day league, gladly accepting the championship trophy from Mr. Peter Tan, ITAP President. Our very own Ms. Ning Siy, chairperson of the ITAP Sports Committee, proudly congratulated the team.
The ADB Tournament finals will surely be exciting as the Accenture Women's team plays Meralco, while the Men's team will play Claret - both teams need 2 wins from the best of 3 games series. Come to the Greenhills Christian Fellowship court (near Robinson's Galleria East Wing) and cheer on your colleagues!

NB Power Race

I was browsing takbo.ph this morning when I saw the post for the New Balance Power Race details. Registration opens today and I thought why not register today in Glorietta since I have a lunch meeting at MSE Bldg. Meeting ended at 1:45pm and I went straight to Glorietta to register. I already know that the race packet and singlet for 25K will not be available until October 25 but I was able to see the men’s singlet for 5K and 10K. It is white with navy blue (btw, blue is my favorite color ;)) on the side and is of the same quality as the KOTR singlet.
Even though it’s still a month away, I am already excited. I just need to know how will I get there and where to stay.

I am the King of the Road

My first ever 21K! I initially planned on just doing 10K but after completing almost 16K during one practice run and words of encouragement (or should I say peer pressure :P) from some HF members I decided to do 21K at the last minute.
I played volleyball last Thursday (semi-finals in the ADB tournament where we won against ADB) and Friday (one day ITAP volleyball tournament where we emerged as champions). With little training and a bit tired from the previous nights volleyball games, I managed to wake-up at 3:30am and I arrived past 5 at the Fort to met up with the Happy Feet group.
I did not have any problems with the Buendia route. Sensei John, Bobby, Roselle and me had a good pace and there was plenty of water at the water stations. I was pacing with Roselle on our way back to the Fort but decided to run on my own after we went down Buendia flyover.
The route towards Heritage was really a challenge. First, the heat was terrible. I could feel it burning my skin. Second, water ran out at the remaining water stations towards the finish line. I felt really dehydrated and started running at a slower pace. In the end, I managed to push myself and finished with an unofficial time of 2 hours and 35 minutes.
After the run, I drowned myself with plenty of water and ate the oatmeal bar and banana that were given out after the race. I felt happy and fullfilled that I was able to complete 21K. I am looking forward to next runs and would definitely go for a PR on my next 21K.
Also, the race would not be complete without the usual photo ops.

Anniversary Run

I am already excited for the Adidas King Of The Road this Saturday, October 11, 2008. The Adidas KOTR 2007 was my first official run and I consider this year's KOTR as my anniversary run.

See you at the starting line! :)

Hope in Motion 3

  • This is my first time to run in Ayala Alabang and I have confirmed that the air smells bacon in the morning!
  • I can still run even though I had a couple of shots of Cuervo the night before…hehehe
  • Unofficial time is 1:01 with a distance of 10.62km according to my Nike+ sportsband (although the distance is around 10.2 accdg to Garmin and Google Earth)
  • Free breakfast after the run! Sir Ipe even gave Happy Feet Krispy Kreme dougnuts.

My shot at photography

I've always been interested in photography but it was just last year when I got my first camera. Thanks to my US assignment, I was able to buy a Canon SD1000 (I decided to give this to my brother as a gift) and a Canon SD870IS. They say that I have the eye for photography but I'll let you decide on that. ;)

Under one hour

I did the PMI run this morning. The weather was great - it was cool as the sky was overcast. The trees lined on the side of the UP roads added to the coolness that already was. Compared to the Run for Your Life, PMI run drew more runners probably because of the PMI students that were present. The route was the same as run for your life - 2 laps around UP campus. I started slow on my first lap. Every now and then I would glance at my Nike+ sportsband to check my time and pace. I had this goal of finishing a 10K run under 1 hour but seeing my pace for the first lap I said to myself that this will not happen for this race. And so on the second lap, I decided not to look at my sportsband anymore but just concentrate on running. I increased my pace on the last 500 meters. Nearing the finish line, I decided to look up to check the official time and to my surprise the time read as 59 minutes. I sprinted and crossed the finish line at 59:58!!! My sportsband registered exactly 1 HR but I stopped the time few seconds after I crossed the finish line. So now that I have done 10K under 1 hour, next goal is 10K under 55 minutes.

15K

Runs for the last two months are 5K and 10K runs. I promised myself that if ever there will be a 15K run I will definitely go for it. Then came VSO Bahaginan's Kabahagi Ako FUNdraising RUN on Nov 9. I am definitely going to register for the 15K run. I am already excited but a bit worried if I will be able to finish it. Time for training. :)

Nike+ Human Race 10K - 08.31.08

This is my 4th 10K run and probably the most challenging because of the terrain and the weather. McKinley hill and the road to Heritage Park are the killers. It was also unusually hot this morning. My official time for this 10K run (10.5K to be exact) is 1:06:39.

After the run, the Happy Feet group had the usual round of picture taking and breakfast at Chowking. We ended the day by claiming our finisher's bracelet at Nike Bonifacio High Street.

This is my first Milo Marathon participation and my second 10K run. It was raining most of the entire race but it I enjoyed getting drenched by the rain. After the run I was able to finally meet some of the happy feet members at Jollibee Harbor Center CCP after the run. Thanks to Sir Mon for the happy feet singlet :)

Run! Run!

Aside from being a volleyball addict, I am now hooked into running. I started running last year. The Adidas King of the Road 2007 was my first run and I would like to thank Roselle (my friend from FOM Choir) for encouraging me to participate. From 5K, I was able to complete my first 10K run just last month courtesy of Rush to Infinity run. I am now looking forward for my next 10K run at the Milo Marathon. Here are some pics from my runs. Sayang hindi lahat ng running events my picture ako.
